A Union of Hearts:
A love that changed history

The light of the star that was Percy McDonald Smith was extinguished more than forty years ago, but some of that light is only reaching me now.

It is important for people to understand their past. The past is always influencing the present. We cannot change that. All we can do is try to better understand it.

I want to share Isabel’s remarkable story to amplify the marginalised voices of the people she knew and young people she loved and cared for. Her story is also their story.

Telling this story is long overdue. Now is the time to tell it.

Isabel and Percy believed in the children, at a time when few other people did. Helping them find acceptance, in a world where they thought acceptance would never be possible.
